The Walk
The
weather forecast was a bit iffy but six of us turned up regardless. Suitably
kitted out, we set out from Coy Pond towards Talbot Heath. This was a new walk for
several of us and we were surprised at the size and ruggedness of the heathland
in such close proximity to Bournemouth. The morning was relatively dry, just
the odd bit of drizzle, and the paths were not too muddy. Our route brought us
out close to Sainsbury’s store at Alder Hills. After lunch we walked around the big pool in the Alder Hills Nature Reserve and then made our way back across the heath. By now the rain was becoming a bit of a nuisance but there was general agreement that this is a walk worth repeating in summer weather.
We finished off with tea and carrot cake at Trudy’s. Many thanks, Trudy.
The Pub
The
Harvester at Alder Hills. We have had varying experiences with Harvester Inns.
This one, like the one at Old Sarum, seems to be up to scratch. We got a table
for six right away, the service was prompt and the food was generally good. The
pie eater had fish and chips for a change and was well pleased with the
quality.
Next Week
A
walk alongside the Moselle river with a visit to a winery.
